Three months after the news of Everton being subject to an independent investigation for alleged breaches of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules, former manager Carlo Ancelotti, who coached the Toffees side for an 18-month stint between 2019 and 2021, has now brought proceedings against the Merseyside Blues.
A breakdown of the referral to the independent commission can be found here.
The proceedings have been brought before the Commercial Court, almost two years after Ancelotti left Goodison Park to reprise his role at Real Madrid. According to multiple news outlets, the proceedings pertain to “general commercial contracts and arrangements."
The claim is untimely for the Toffees, who have recently taken out a bridging loan to help stabilise their finances. It is understood that the loan has been secured against the club's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, whilst owner Farhad Moshiri looks to attract further external investment.
Against a backdrop of uncertainty, there is further speculation of big key players leaving the club, indicating that a potential mass exodus is on the cards. The speculation comes amidst an incredibly uncertain financial future for the Toffees and there will be more to follow in the coming weeks, so watch this space!
